Don't Take the Bait. Here's Why America Is Really in Peril
We're on a path to destruction. The solution is simple.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice that America is in peril. And while the thought that our once great country could meet its demise very shortly does torment me, it doesn’t confuse me. I’m not befuddled one single bit about what’s broken in the United States of America or what the solution is.
Take a moment to read and meditate on this passage:
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
(Galatians 6:7-10)
In a few short paragraphs, let me give you the problem and the solution. These aren’t my thoughts; I’m not that smart. What I’m going to share with you comes straight out of the above passage.
GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED!
He is, after all, the sovereign God who spoke everything in the universe into being by simply saying “Let there be ….” Whatever he commanded to exist began to exist simply because he commanded it. He didn’t form it out of something, but out of nothing. When I crafted my first duck call, I started with a piece of cedar and hand carved it into the prototype for every duck call I made after that. I created something, but I didn’t create it from nothing. I fashioned it from something that already existed. By contrast, God started with nothing and created everything.
To be honest with you, this baffles my mind. I find that I get muddle-minded when I try to contemplate the concept of nothing. But it does bring clarity to my mind in one sense – a being who is eternal (with no beginning and no end) and has the raw power to command the universe to exist is too great … too mighty … too powerful for me to fully understand. The best I can do is sit back and say, “WOW!”
YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW!
The point is you can’t pull the wool over the eyes of a God like Jehovah God! You can’t slick him! You can’t deceive him! You can’t mock him. You can’t defy him or refuse to acknowledge him and still escape the natural consequences of rebellion against him. Notice in this passage that Paul is making an argument from nature – you reap what you sow. If you plan to live in a way that satisfies your sinful desires, you’ll naturally reap fruit that leads you further into that direction.
You ask, “Where does that lead me?” Boy, do I ever have some bad news for you. The answer is right there! It leads to destruction. You will be destroyed. You will be continually unfulfilled. You’ll be confused. You’ll be deceived. You will embrace lies that were tailor-made to specifically lead you to condemnation. Sadly, you will know that something hit you, but you won’t know what.
Let me ask you a question. Does this sound like America in 2021? Are we on a path to greatness? Are we clear-minded? Or are we on a path to destruction? Unfortunately for us, it looks like we’re making up our own moral code as we go along. We’re grasping at straws. We all know we can’t live in a world without a clear sense of morality, of right and wrong, but we have no idea where to go to find that moral code. Not since we told the Almighty to hit the road. If you’re wondering where all the crazy stuff about gender, race, and socialism is coming from, look no further. When a people expel the Creator, they’re on their own. And when mankind is on his own, he will lead himself over the cliff – every single time.
TURN AWAY FROM YOUR SELF-CENTEREDNESS AND SEEK TO PLEASE THE SPIRIT!
You may be thinking that I’m preaching a doom-and-gloom message, but I’m far from being overwhelmed by hopelessness. That’s because I know the rest of the story of the gospel. While the gospel assumes that mankind is depraved, it also tells the story of an all-powerful God who formed humanity with his hands and poured out his flawless love on them.
The solution is simple, according to this passage. Simply admit your past hatred for God, repent of your sins, and run pell-mell in the other direction. Stop sowing the seeds of destruction and agree with God that you will sow seeds that please the Spirit of God. You and I have two choices – either we can reap destruction or eternal life. Whichever harvest we reap will depend on the crops we plant. Reject your obsession with yourself and pray for the Almighty to give you the desire to desire him.
In the meantime, I’m confident that I have a clear path forward – I’m going to continue to boldly tell folks about the one who died and was raised from the dead on my behalf. The world can hold hands and sing Kumbaya while it marches into destruction, but I won’t be in that crowd. I’ll be holding on to the hand of the one who sits at the right hand of God interceding on my behalf. I’ll be going with Jesus. That’s why it will be very difficult for the evil one to confuse me.
Be alert and of sober mind.
Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith …
(1 Peter 5:8-9)
Hello phil Robertson. I never miss or try not to miss your unashamed podcast. Just would like to tell you something that happened to me 15 months ago. I had a bad seizure. Smashed my face off a brick patio. Was rushed to the hospital. My brain was swollen. Was put in a induced coma. Went into cardiac arrest. Saw my mother who had pass 13years before this happened. I like I said saw her. And jesus christ. My mom and jesus never said a word to me. But felt pure love. It was the most peaceful thing I ever experienced. I was I think a good man before this happened. But had faults. Was always angry. Not the most pleasant man to be around. But that experience seeing my mother and jesus changed my life. I know I'm not perfect. I still make mistakes. But trying to a better man. Just wanted to share that.
